The Carlson Residence is located on the 35th floor of the Continuum building in Miami Beach, Florida. This two-bedroom unit was reconfigured to open the kitchen to the living area and enlarge the master bathroom. Materials embrace the “Miami” style: colorful, clean, and airy, and enhance the open quality of the space. Large windows look out onto magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean to the east and Miami Beach to the north. Terrazzo floor tiles continue from the interior through to the terrace and are of a light color that contrasts with the bright blue and orange furniture pieces. The kitchen is carefully detailed to create a smooth transition into the living area. Similarly, the lighting has been carefully integrated architecturally so as to eliminate the need for excessive decorative fixtures and to create spectacular night scenes for entertaining. The colorful tiles on one wall each in the powder room and guest bath continue the theme of strong accent colors against predominantly white rooms. The master bathroom has separate shower room and toilet cabana divided by glass doors from the tub/lavatory area. The architect hand-chose the lace Carrera stone in Italy for its color and texture. Lighting acts to enhance the sculptural quality of the space.
